Megson: Suicidal defending cost us
Recently-appointed Sheffield Wednesday manager Gary Megson felt his side were undone by "suicidal" defending during their 3-0 defeat at Tranmere. The match was evenly poised before Rovers went in front through Lateef Elford-Alliyu. Wednesday's Giles Coke was then shown a straight red for a foul on John Welsh on 64 minutes, before Ian Goodison netted Tranmere's second a minute later.Enoch Showunmi wrapped up the win for Tranmere on 81 minutes, leaving the Owls without a win in nine matches.Megson said: "I thought for an hour we were on top but we did not create a huge amount. We then went 1-0 down to a poor goal and the sending off caused us real problems and led to the second goal."Technically it was not the best of challenges by our man but I thought the red card was a bit harsh. We have got to keep plugging away. We have lost 3-0 in a game we should have got something from. We took the game to them without playing champagne football and we should have been ahead."Tranmere took their first chance and it came due to suicidal defending by us. We have no alternative but to take the stick which has been coming our way. We have got to roll our sleeves up and put on a performance in our next game."
