McMahon apologises for red
24 Oct 2008 - 11:46:49
On-loan Sheffield Wednesday defender Anthony McMahon has apologised for the midweek red card which will result in him missing the Owls' next three games.
The Middlesbrough right-back was given his marching orders during Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley following a dangerous tackle on Rob Kozluk.
"I'd like to apologise to our 6,000 fans that travelled to Barnsley, our manager and everybody involved with the club because I feel that I let everyone down," McMahon told the club's official website.
"I saw the ball and went in for the tackle. I lunged in a little bit but I certainly haven't gone in to hurt the bloke.
"I've had my own leg broken in a tackle at Liverpool and the last thing that I'd want to do is injure another player.
"I'm not a dirty player so I apologise to him and I stress that I went for the ball but no contact was made. The ref deemed it was dangerous.
"Nothing like that will happen again. The biggest penalty for me is having to sit out the next three games, which will kill me."
