Loan winger departs Owls

Sheffield Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock has opted not to extend Charlton Athletic winger Lloyd Sam's loan spell at Hillsborough.

The 22-year-old, who missed Saturday's 2-1 home defeat against Derby County with a hamstring injury, is to return to The Valley because Sturrock has a number of first team players coming back from injury and does not want to keep Sam longer than he needs to.

He told BBC Radio Sheffield: "I'd have liked him to stay but we have other players coming back from injury.

"We are running over budget so if we are going to pay his wages for another month it would increase our spending."
