Laws tips Varney to shine

Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws has persuaded Derby County striker Luke Varney to move to Hillsborough on a one-month loan deal.

The 26-year-old former Crewe Alexandra and Charlton Athletic forward has scored only once this season in nine appearances for the Rams.

Laws told the Owls' official website: "We know a lot about Luke and what I can say without question is that he has a tremendous work ethic.

"What he needs now is to get some regular games and goals under his belt.

"He had an excellent strike rate at Crewe and I'm confident he can show that kind of form for Sheffield Wednesday."
