Laws plans double appeal
20 Nov 2006 - 13:33:24
Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws has confirmed that the club will be appealing against the red cards picked up by Wade Small and Chris Brunt in Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Coventry City.
Small was handed his marching orders for hitting out at Sky Blues' man Michael Doyle on 15 minutes at the Ricoh Arena, but the Owls still looked on course to make it six games unbeaten when Brunt fired them ahead seven minutes later.
However, when Brunt was sent off nine minutes before the break for a perceived professional foul on Chris Birchall, the hosts stormed back to claim the three points against nine men.
Laws was unhappy with both decisions and is hoping to get them overturned when video evidence is viewed by the authorities.
He told the club's official website: "We'll definitely be appealing.
"I feel Small has a legitimate excuse. If every man could put himself in that situation, you could understand him reacting as he did.
"I've also looked at the Brunt incident closely. He never took his eye off the ball and it was just a coming together. There was no deliberate act to stop the player."
