Laws buoyed by cup success

Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws was impressed with his side's 3-0 victory against Rochdale in the first round of the Carling Cup on Tuesday night.

A sensational strike from Etienne Esajas and a double from Jermaine Johnson put the visitors to the sword and Laws is aware of the importance of the win - both on and off the pitch.

Speaking to the club's official website, he said: "Financially, it helps me, it helps the club if I can have more finances to bring players in and strengthen the squad - it is a win-win situation.

"The important thing was to get through to the next round and I said that to the players before the game."
