Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine has accepted that the better side won after Doncaster Rovers left Hillsborough with a 2-0 win on Tuesday night.
Goals from Elliott Ward and a James O'Connor own-goal inflicted the damage as the Owls' relegation fears took a knock.
Irvine had guided the side to five wins from seven, but he has held his hands up following the setback against their Yorkshire rivals.
He said: "The better team won the game, they deserved to win.
"We had a couple of big moments obviously, early in the game we hit the post twice at 0-0 and they were good chances.
"We need to pass the ball better, we didn't pass it so well. We worked hard, you know you're going to have to do that against Doncaster with the way they play.
"They get an extra man in the middle of the park quite often and they move the ball around well."
