Wednesday Vs Blackpool: Team news & preview
Sheffield Wednesday play host to Blackpool on Tuesday evening as they attempt to make it 3 Championship wins in a row.
Dave Jones’ may have to make do without the services of midfielder Paul Corry. The youngster limped out of the weekend win against Peterborough during the first half and is a doubt to be fit in time to face Blackpool. Corry was replaced by Rhys McCabe on Saturday and the former Rangers player is likely to regain a starting place if Corry is unavailable.
Blackpool were hoping to appoint a new manager on Monday following the departure of Ian Holloway to Crystal Palace but this has not happened and time will tell if the Lancashire club will have a new boss in place by Tuesday evening.
Steve Thompson has been in caretaker charge of the club since the weekend and will be preparing the team for their trip to Hillsborough. They will be without captain Ian Evatt as the defender serves a 1-match ban. Former Manchester United youngster Craig Cathcart could replace Evatt at the heart of the defence.
Thankfully for the Owls, veteran striker Kevin Phillips is unlikely to be fit for the visitors. Phillips has a scored on numerous occasions against Wednesday for a variety of clubs.
Having put an end to a 10-game winless streak Wednesday have recorded back-to-back victories but are yet to keep a clean sheet at home in the league this season.
After a flying start Blackpool have been struggling of late with no wins in their last 5 matches including a crushing 4-1 defeat at Derby last Saturday.
Blackpool gave Wednesday a bit of a lesson in the F.A. Cup at Hillsborough last season, winning 3-0 in a replay after the 2 sides had drawn 1-1 at Bloomfield Road when Kevin Phillips scored a late leveller from the penalty spot. The Owls have been victorious in 3 of the last 4 matches between the 2 sides in the league with the most recent coming at S6 in February 2010 when they won 2-0.
