Clarke impresses for Owls

Owls striker Leon Clarke was the stand-out player as Sheffield Wednesday beat Bury 2-0 on Saturday.

The 23-year-old scored both goals for Wednesday, increasing the pressure on fellow strikers Deon Burton and Marcus Tudgay.

His two attacking rivals had previously looked likely to begin the Owls' Championship campaign as the first-choice strike partnership, but manager Brian Laws was clear that Clarke is now in the mix.

"He has all the tools of the trade - he's big, strong, quick and he can finish," Laws told The Star newspaper.

"Leon has been pretty frustrated because he's worked extremely hard in pre-season, yet hasn't had the goal reward that the others have had

"I said to him at half-time that he looked like he was snatching at things, he was desperate for a goal. Now he's got those two, I'm sure he'll kick on like everybody else has so far."
