Wednesday Vs Leeds: Team news & preview
Sheffield Wednesday host local rivals Leeds United in front of the SKY TV cameras on Friday evening as they seek to put an end to their dismal recent Championship run.
Dave Jones is still without the services of central midfielder Chris Lines who is yet to feature this season and left-back Reda Johnson is also still sidelined.
Ross Barkley is likely to feature in midfield as his initial loan spell from Everton draws to a close.
Gary Madine and Rodri made their claims to feature up front by scoring in run-outs for the under 21’s team last week and winger Jermaine Johnson will be hoping to regain his place in the side.
Wednesday have played with Chris O’Grady up front supported by Jay Bothroyd and Michail Antonio from wide positions in recent games. The tactic worked well at Burnley but proved to be less fruitful in the last game at home to Hull and it will be interesting to see if Dave Jones sticks with this or reverts back to 4-4-2.
Leeds have doubts over former Sheffield United midfielder Michael Tonge due to an slight injury but manager Neil Warnock is hopeful Tonge will be fit. Rudolph Austin is due to return from international duty with Jamaica sometime on Thursday at which point he will be assessed as to his availability for the Yorkshire derby.
Wednesday are without a win in 8 games, 7 of which have ended in defeat. They have conceded the most goals in the Championship so far this season and have lost their last 3 home matches.
In contrast Leeds are unbeaten in their last 5 matches, winning 4 of them. They have however suffered 2 away defeats this season, at Cardiff and Blackpool.
Wednesday won 3-2 the last time the 2 teams met in 2007 but Leeds one by a solitary goal at Hillsborough earlier that season. The Owls have only won 2 of their last 11 matches against Leeds at S6.
