Bienvenido de nuevo Miguel!

Spaniard prolongs S6 stay

Sheffield Wednesday received a boost on Thursday when it was confirmed that Spanish defender Miguel Llera has opted to stay at Hillsborough.

The 33-year-old was one of six out of contract players offered a new contract at the end of last season and he has now agreed a deal that extends his stay with the Owls for another year.

Llera signed for Wednesday after leaving Blackpool following a loan spell at Hillsborough during the 2011/12 season. He was a key performer as the Owls secured promotion from League One that season and quickly became a popular player with the fans.

After a good start to the 2012/13 campaign Llera's performances dipped somewhat and his place came under threat from new signing Martin Taylor. It didn't take long for the Spaniard to regain his place in the side and he went on to feature in 41 league games last season as the Owls defensive displays showed gradual improvement.

Llera has played a total of 66 games for the Owls so far and it is not just his defensive abilities that have persuaded Dave Jones to keep him at the club. He regularly takes attacking set pieces and has weighed in with 10 goals to date for Wednesday.

Jones may still be in the market for another centre-back to bolster his squad further as Wednesday currently only have 3 recognised centre-halves in their 1st team squad, all of which are over 30 years of age.
