A win will see Owls fly high
Wednesday Vs Wycombe: team news & preview
Sheffield Wednesday take on Wycombe Wanderers at a packed Hillsborough on Saturday in the knowledge that 3 points will see them promoted to the Championship. Wycombe almost made it a winner takes all match on the final day of the season but conceded 2 late goals at home to Notts County last weekend to consign them to relegation.
Owls manager Dave Jones remains without left-backs Reda Johnson and Julian Bennett due to injuries and so he must choose between Mark Beevers and Daniel Jones in that role.
The boss also has some attacking decisions to make with 2 wide positions up for grabs between Michail Antonio, Jermaine Johnson and Keith Treacy. Gary Madine and Nile Ranger have formed an effective partnership in attack but the latter has struggled for goals and so Ryan Lowe will be hoping to feature.
Wycombe’s main threat will undoubtedly come from top scorer Stuart Beavon. The striker has hit 25 goals this season and with Wycombe dropping down to League Two next season he has attracted the attention of a number of clubs that could offer him a higher level of football.
The visitors will be without on-loan winger Chris Hackett due to a groin injury and defender Dave Winfield who has a thigh problem. Another defender, Anthony Stewart, has not recovered from an injury picked up at Chesterfield last month and striker Ben Strevens is a doubt after he limped off during the first half of last weekend’s match.
Wednesday are currently on a run of 13 games unbeaten and have won 6 of their last 7 matches at home. Wycombe’s form has been less impressive as they are without a win in 7, 4 of which have been draws.
The visitors have lost 14 and won just 4 of their 22 away games this season and have conceded the most goals on the road in League One.
The 2 sides have only ever faced each other once in the League at Hillsborough, drawing 1-1 back in January 2004. Wednesday won 2-1 at Wycombe in October thanks to goals from Semedo and Lowe either side of a striker by Jordon Ibe.
