Wilson leaves Blades

Sheffield United have confirmed the departure of manager Danny Wilson with just five matches of the npower League One season remaining.

The Blades are currently in the play-off places, lying fifth in the table and four points clear of Tranmere in seventh.

But a run of just one win in six matches, culminating in a 2-0 home defeat by Crawley, has prompted a change at Bramall Lane.

Assistant manager Frank Barlow has also left the club, with first-team coach Chris Morgan taking charge for the remainder of the season - starting with Saturday's home game against promotion rivals Swindon.

In a statement on the club's website, Blades owner Kevin McCabe said: "We must thank Danny and Frank for all their endeavours and hard work over the past two seasons.

"We now have a mini season for this club to achieve success and we will all back Chris in this mission."

Wilson took over at Bramall Lane in May 2011 despite some fans protesting due to his time as a player and manager with rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

He guided them to the play-off final last season, but they were beaten on penalties by Huddersfield.
