Wilson: Back Um Not Sack Um

Former Sheffield United and Wednesday boss Danny Wilson has hit out at the Blades, saying that the club need to back their managers not sack them... Wilson was handed the reigns at Sheffield United following the dismissal of Micky Adams in May 2010 following the Blades relegation into League One. He guided United to the Play-Off Final in his first season and like his predecessors lost at Wembley - this time to Huddersfield Town on penalties. In April 2013 Wilson was relieved for his Bramall Lane duties and with Chris Morgan as caretaker the club reached the play-offs, many fans now believe that Wilson should have been given an extra opportunity to prove his worth - at least until the end of the season. Earlier this month United sacked his successor David Weir after only winning one game but since Neil Warnock left the Lane in May 2007 the Blades will have installed 7 permanent managers when a new manager is announced - Bryan Robson, Kevin Blackwell, Gary Speed, Micky Adams, Danny Wilson and David Weir have all been and gone.Wilson, who has managed both Sheffield sides told TalkSport Radio; "At this stage it looks a perilous position, but I genuinely believe they will be fine and they will make an appointment in the next week and get things back on track, I know it's a cliche, but they really are too good to be in that position, but they need stability, confidence and trust. "Sometimes it just doesn't click (with a manager). The club is needing stability, trust and patience to get through the tough times. There has to be stability at clubs and that always starts with the management. They're the first ones who feel the weight of bad results."David has felt that early in his fledgling career. It can be very tough at times, it's demanding and instant in football nowadays. He has brought very good players in there. Had they stuck with him, would results have turned round? I think they possibly would have done."
