Warnock tipped to quit
16 May 2007 - 08:12:35
Neil Warnock is expected to leave Sheffield United after the club's relegation to the Championship after only one season in the top-flight was confirmed by Sunday's home defeat to Wigan Athletic.
The news looks set to be revealed at a Bramall Lane press conference on Wednesday morning.
Speaking to the Guardian on Tuesday, Warnock's assistant, Stuart McCall, said: "As far as I know, Neil is still in charge."
Asked about rumours that he was set to be named manager, McCall added: "Someone's been winding you up."
It is believed that Warnock rejected the offer of a new two-year deal from the club last week.
The veteran manager has been manager at Bramall Lane since December 1999 and finally guided the Blades to promotion to the Premiership 12 months ago after several near misses.
In a long and varied managerial career, Warnock has also been in charge of Scarborough, Notts County, Huddersfield Town, Plymouth Argyle, Oldham Athletic and Bury.
Manchester City have already parted company with Stuart Pearce while Paul Jewell has resigned his position at Wigan Athletic since the last games of the season on Sunday.
