Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell has opted to release veteran duo Geoff Horsfield and Paul Gerrard.

Striker Horsfield has endured an unhappy time at Bramall Lane, starting only one game for the Blades while being sent out on loan to Leeds United, Leicester City and Scunthorpe United.

Former Ipswich Town and Everton goalkeeper Gerrard made 19 appearances for United, but none since January 2007.

Young professionals James Ashmore, Martin Donnelly, Stephen Hernandez, Lloyd Kerry and Dean Oliver have also been released.
