Tonge wins Warnock's praise
15 Apr 2007 - 11:29:27
Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock picked out Michael Tonge for special praise as the Blades eased their relegation concerns with a vital 3-0 victory against West Ham United at Bramall Lane.
The 24-year-old has endured an injury-ravaged campaign but broke the deadlock in the relegation six-pointer as Warnock's side opened up a five-point gap over the hapless Hammers.
After the win Warnock said: "Both teams knew it was a massive game.
"We were relaxed in training this week and I think that showed in our play. The pressure was on West Ham and it showed in theirs.
"I thought we played some good football and scored some cracking goals.
"Michael Tonge's had some injuries and been left out but when he plays well he's as good as anyone. For me he was the man of the match.
"There were a lot of unsung heroes. I think we won it as a team. It's pleasing me that Sheffield United have come through as a team.
"We should have been sat there with cigars in, relaxing and looking at the summer but we aren't and it just makes it that bit more exciting if you're a Sheffield United fan because you know there's something just around the corner."
