New Sheffield United manager Bryan Robson has accepted that England B international Phil Jagielka will leave Bramall Lane this summer.

The 24-year-old, who can play in either defence or midfield, is a target for several Premier League clubs, with Everton and Wigan Athletic reported to be leading the chase for his services.

A resigned Robson told the Sheffield Star: "Keeping Phil looks like it is going to be a problem.

"He's told me that, if possible, he would rather stay in the Premiership, providing it's the best thing for both him and the club.

"My job now looks like it's going to be trying to ensure we get the best deal possible. That's what I'll be trying my best to do."

Jagielka's Blades team-mate Paddy Kenny had earlier backed his colleague to stay in the top-flight.

He told BBC Sport: "I'm surprised he hasn't moved before, but now I think it's time.

"He did well for us last season and if something did come along, I don't think he'd turn it down. He deserves his chance, he's a Premiership quality player."
