Bryan Robson has refused to comment on speculation linking him with the vacant managerial hot-seat at Sheffield United.
The former England international midfielder and Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion manager is reported to have held talks with the Blades board on Thursday about replacing Neil Warnock at Bramall Lane.
It is also reported that Robson would bring in Brian Kidd as his number two if he gets the job after the pair worked together at Manchester United.
However, when asked about the speculation, Robson responded: "I have absolutely nothing to say about it at the moment."
Earlier in the day, United chairman Terry Robinson revealed he hopes to name the new manager as early as next week.
He told the club's official website: "Those of us on the football side are doing the research and have submitted a shortlist to the Plc board.
"Broadly speaking we are looking at three lists, one containing the names of men with all the ideal qualities, another of up and coming younger managers, and then some from abroad to give us a wide choice of possibilities.
"We are working mainly from the first list and have had contact with some of the candidates on it. We will progress from there when we have enough information and confidence to take things to the next stage.
"The timeframe for appointing is really to get everything sorted out as soon as possible. Kevin McCabe is currently in the USA so we are doing the groundwork so that he can decide, possibly as early next week."
