Naysmith sidelined after knee op

Published: 01 May 2009 - 12:22:00

The Scotland international sustained the injury in the recent defeat at Burnley and will play no further part in the Blades' promotion challenge. Manager Kevin Blackwell said: "We hoped that there was no serious damage to his knee, but Gary has undergone surgery on his cruciate ligament and will be out for six or seven months. "It is extremely disappointing because he has been such a solid player for us all season and to lose him at this absolutely crucial stage is desperately bad luck for him and the club." Naysmith has been one of United's most consistent performers this season, making 37 starts for Blackwell's side at full-back.
