Naysmith seals Blades switch

Sheffield United have wrapped up the £1million signing of experienced Everton defender Gary Naysmith.

The Scotland international agreed a three-year contract at Bramall Lane just 24 hours after the Blades sanctioned the £4million sale of Phil Jagielka to the Merseyside club.

Naysmith, 28, had spent six-and-a-half years with the Toffees, but admitted the lure of playing under Blades boss Bryan Robson was too good an opportunity to turn down.

"Coming to play under Bryan Robson makes me really excited and, after speaking with the chairman, I am keen and happy to be here," he told the club's official website.

"This is a big club who have done very well in recent years and were unlucky in the Premiership last season.

"I have no problems with dropping a division, as I feel we will only be here (in the Championship) for one year.

"We have a great squad with plenty of experience so we should be aiming to get promoted at the first attempt."
