Kenny's nine-month ban to stand
20 Oct 2009 - 15:54:30
Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has lost his appeal against the nine-month ban he was handed for breaching doping regulations.
An Appeal Board decided on Tuesday that the suspension should stand.
The positive test for ephedrine was proven to be the result of taking an over-the-counter chest medicine so Kenny had been hoping the ban would be reduced on the grounds of 'disproportionate' punishment.
However, a statement read: "The Appeal Board dismissed the appeal by Mr Paddy Kenny against his nine-month suspension for a breach of the FA doping regulations.
"The Regulatory Commission's decision to impose a nine-month suspension was an appropriate measure of the seriousness of the offence."
Blades manager Kevin Blackwell is now likely to keep on-loan Blackburn Rovers shot-stopper Mark Bunn at the club for the rest of the season.
