Hulse hails Warnock
08 Oct 2006 - 12:02:29
Sheffield United striker Rob Hulse has praised Blades boss Neil Warnock and thinks the veteran manager can keep the club in the Premiership.
Warnock guided United to their first Premiership win of the season - 2-1 against Middlesbrough - last weekend in their seventh game of the campaign, and it was enough to lift the newly-promoted side off the foot of the table.
The result has lifted spirits at Bramall Lane according to Hulse, who told the club's official website: "Promoted teams have a winning mentality because they are used to winning matches.
"But life in the Premiership is a much tougher proposition and they usually have to start to overcome the disappointment of losing.
"That's when the strength of character of players is vital. They have to remember that it was their combined efforts that got them where they are, and the same trust is even more important when things go against them.
"It's also when a manager really has to earn his corn and convince all of them that they can still do it at a higher level. When things are tight - in a single game or in a dogfight - mental toughness and enthusiasm usually makes the difference.
"Everyone has been saying how 'down' the place must be because we've waited until our seventh game for a win but the gaffer has been fantastic throughout.
"He kept us all upbeat and bubbly and that was vital. We think the world of him as a manager and I'd like to think we showed against Middlesbrough just what it means for us to play for him.
"We're really pleased for him because he wants to do well and he made sure heads didn't go down."
