The Football Association has charged Sheffield United midfielder Keith Gillespiewith violent conduct following the Northern Ireland international's behaviour at Reading on Saturday.
The news comes on the same day that the 31-year-old, who was sent off at the Madejski Stadium for elbowing Stephen Hunt, handed in a transfer request.
The charge relates to Gillespie's behaviour after his dismissal when he appeared to restart his argument with the Royals player.
A brief statement on the FA's official website read: "The charge relates to Gillespie's conduct following his dismissal (also for violent conduct) during the game against Reading at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday 20 January.
"Under the FA's fast track disciplinary system, Gillespie has until 6pm on Wednesday 24 January to admit or deny the charge. A Disciplinary Commission will hear the case on Tuesday 30 January."
