Evans fitness boost for Blades

Published: 13 Aug 2009 - 10:59:00

Evans has been struggling with a hamstring injury since his £3million switch from Manchester City in July and played the final 20 minutes in the Blades' opening game at Middlesbrough last Friday. But his successful run-out for Wales is a major boost for Blades manager Kevin Blackwell, who saw his side miss a string of chances in their midweek Carling Cup defeat to Port Vale. David Cotterill made a brief appearance for John Toshack's senior Wales side in their 2-1 defeat in Montenegro and fellow winger David Carney scored with a spectacular late strike in Australia's 3-0 win over the Republic of Ireland. Meanwhile, defender Kyle Walker, back on a season-long loan from Tottenham, was an unused substitute in England Under-20s 5-0 win over Montenegro.
