Doyle to keep armband
David Weir has confirmed that Michael Doyle will remain the captain of Sheffield United this season...
A new manager and fresh faces sparked speculation that the new management team at Bramall Lane might be looking to reconsider the captaincy, but Blades boss David Weir has no issues with midfielder Michael Doyle carrying on wearing the armband.
Weir said: "There's not really a situation (with the captaincy) as far as I'm concerned.
"Michael Doyle has been the captain. Michael has been great ever since I came in.
"He was the captain and he still is the captain and I'm more than happy with him.
"He's been great in all of the pre-season games, he's been great around the place so I've got no reason to change it."
The Irishman made 52 starts in a Blades shirt last season and was captain for the entirity of them.
Doyle joined United from Coventry City at the start of 2011, where he also wore the armband for the Sky Blues for a period of time.
The 31-year-old formed a midfield partnership with the new Blades assistant manager Lee Carsley at the Ricoh Arena too.
