Club set to trial 'Singing Section'

After message-board users on Blades Mad contacted the club about introducing a 'Singing Section' somewhere in the ground, they have listened to their thoughts and are to trial the idea for our home game with Coventry City... Saturday 10th April 2010 Sheffield United vs Coventry City Posters on our lively message-board are highly concerned about the atmosphere at Beautiful Downtown Bramall Lane this season, with the exemption of one or two games, like the Steel City Derby. So, this forced many people on our message-board to inundate the club with emails regarding a 'Singing Section'. And, as a message-board poster myself, who does feel a 'Singing Section' would improve the atmosphere at the Lane, posted an article on the main site to advertise the suggestion, with the help of Humbsharp, a poster on the message-board. The club is allowing supporters to move, for one game only, to the bottom tier on the Halliwells Stand - the stand where away supporters are usually housed, so Sky Blues fans will have to be located elsewhere - probably the upper tier or the Westfield Health Corner. An article on the official website outlines all the details for fans who are interested in moving to the 'Singing Section'. The club do stress it's for one game only, and if it's successful, a more long-term proposal may be introduced. The article reads: 'Following a plea from many of our supporters, we have been engaged in dialogue with all parties with the intention of introducing an area in the stadium designated as a 'singing section'. The Club is 100% committed to improving the match day atmosphere at Bramall Lane and to listening to ideas and suggestions from our fans, such as this one. We have received outline permission from the Safety Advisory Group to trial the idea and - having already sold tickets to away fans for all our other remaining home games - nominate the fixture against Coventry City FC on Saturday 10th April. For that game, the Lower Tier of the Halliwells Stand at the Bramall Lane end of the ground will designated as the singing section. Supportive singing is the intention and the provision of an appropriate section on the Kop is not possible this season as the only available seats are restricted view. The trial will take place with the objective of monitoring its success and possibly introducing it next season. Any current season ticket holders who wish to be involved may move their seats into this area for this game. Individual match day tickets may also be purchased for this game in this section. Normal rules apply. We stress that this is a trial match. Decisions regarding any future for the project will depend on the reaction and behaviour of fans located in this stand, and normal stadium rules on standing, use of bad language etc will be implemented by our stewards in the usual way. We hope that supporters relocating for this trial game get behind the team in the right way - as has been promised by supporters who have requested the initiative.'
