Carver's honest assessment

Caretaker manager John Carver wasn't afraid to say what he honestly feels about strikers Ched Evans and Daniel Bogdanovic... The duo have scored six goals between them this season, hardly prolific, and temporary boss John Carver has publicly said today (Thursday) what he wants to see from the Welsh and Maltese strikers. Evans netted the winner last week against Swansea to score consecutive goals at the Lane (Crystal Palace the previous game). Bogdanovic's last goal also came in that Palace game where the Blades showed fighting spirit to come from 2:1 down to win 3:2 late on. There isn't any doubts of strikers' capabilities in Carver's mind, but he wants to see them blow hot rather than cold. He said: "Daniel is full of remorse about getting sent-off and he is chomping at the bit to get back into the team. He realises we have just won, though, and he isn't stupid enough to think he will walk straight back into the team. "When he does, I want to see the Daniel Bogdanovic we saw at Nottingham Forest and not the one we saw at Hull." On Evans, he said: "The Swansea game was probably Ched's best performance for this club and I wasn't surprised because he has got bags of ability which we see regularly in training. "I have told him that I don't want a training ground footballer and I am confident he can build on that goal in the coming weeks. "Both Gary Speed and I have said to him that there comes a time in life where you have to force the issue. "After a promising start to his career, which included a loan spell at Norwich, it is fair to say he hasn't pulled any trees up here yet. "On the plus side, he can strike the ball as hard as Alan Shearer, yet his goal against Swansea demonstrated more composure. Two or three weeks ago he would have blazed the ball over the top so hopefully the penny has dropped." Image copyright to Action Images
