    Blades wrap up Taylor deal

    15 Jul 2009 - 14:24:08

Sheffield United have completed the signing of Andy Taylor from Tranmere Rovers.

The left-back leaves Prenton Park for an undisclosed fee and will replace Kyle Naughton who is set to leave the Yorkshire club and sign for Everton.

The 23-year-old is a product of Blackburn Rovers' academy, but moved to the Wirral in a bid to seek regular first-team football in January 2008 following a loan spell.

Taylor made 59 appearances for the Merseyside club and quickly became a fans' favourite.

"Andy's still young enough to develop and we've been watching him for quite a while," Blades manager Kevin Blackwell told the club's official website.

"We regarded him as one of the best left-backs outside the Premiership and that's reflected by the fact that we beat several other Championship clubs to his signature."

Taylor added: "When I left Rovers I could have gone to Preston or Blackpool but chose Tranmere in order to get games and, hopefully, progress well enough to go back up the divisions.

"This is a massive club, a great opportunity and, to be honest, as soon as I heard of United's interest and the chance to come here and speak I had no hesitation - it was an easy decision to sign."

Taylor will join up with his new team-mates imminently, as they fly to Hungary for a pre-season training camp on Thursday.
