Blades win race to sign Evans

Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell has strengthened his squad with the capture of Manchester City striker Ched Evans.

The 20-year-old moves to Bramall Lane for £3million and becomes Blackwell's seventh signing of the summer.

Blackburn Rovers winger Keith Treacy joins the Blades on a long-term loan deal while former Hull City player Ryan France has penned a two-year contract with the club.

Blackwell said of Evans' arrival: "He's a young striker and we're delighted to have won the race for him because there was significant interest in him from two Premiership clubs and two from the Championship.

"We think the lad has a bright future and felt that it was only right to invest some of the money from the sale of two of our star youngsters into the signing of another."
