Sheffield United have confirmed they will pay Simon Walton's wages, after the Plymouth Argyle loanee suffered a serious injury in the recent friendly match with Mansfield Town.
The 22-year-old damaged his cruciate ligaments in the pre-season meeting and manager Kevin Blackwell has also said he would not rule out a return for the player in the future.
Speaking to reporters he said: "It's a massive blow to the lad, missing a whole campaign.
"He is contracted to us for this season so we are responsible for his wages. Right now the important issue is to sort out details of his rehabilitation.
"We have spoken to him although at the moment there is no consoling him, but he is young enough to come back from and and we won't dismiss him."
