Blades secure loanee O'Toole

Highly-rated Watford midfielder John-Joe O'Toole has joined Championship rivals Sheffield United on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has scored 12 goals in 66 appearances for the Hornets, but has been allowed to head to Bramall Lane with a view to a permanent move.

The Blades are reported to have faced competition from Preston North End and Wolves for O'Toole's signature.

Meanwhile United manager Kevin Blackwell is thought to be eyeing further loan moves, with Stoke City's Michael Tonge linked with a possible return to Bramall Lane.

Blackwell told the Sheffield Star: "There are eight weeks to go and people are not going to let anyone leave lightly, but we'll keep on looking and trying."
