Blades secure Britton coup

Sheffield United have won the race to sign winger Leon Britton from Swansea City, beating off interest from the Premier League.

The 27-year-old has spent the last eight years with the Swans, but has decided the time is right for a change, penning a three-year contract at Bramall Lane.

Britton told Wales Online: "Sheffield made contact through my representatives and the talks have been going on all through the summer.

"It has been the biggest decision of my career, a critical decision because I'm 27.

"I took a long time to think about my options, because it was so difficult to leave Swansea.

"But the time has come for me to have a fresh challenge. I had options in the Premier League, but I sat down and spoke to people who are close to me.

"I decided it wasn't right for me and that Sheffield United was."
