Blades put ball in Kenny's court

    10 Sep 2009 - 16:27:19

Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell insists that any decision to appeal against a drugs ban rests on Paddy Kenny and has nothing to do with the club.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper was handed a nine-month ban after traces of ephedrine were found in his system, though he has maintained his innocence by claiming it was part of a cough formula.

An FA hearing accepted Kenny's defence but went ahead with the ban.

Kenny is still being paid by the Bramall Lane club, but Blackwell insists they will not become involved in any appeal process and any decision to do so will be the player's alone.

"The next step is for Paddy to speak to his representatives after they have received and discussed the summary of the case and findings from the FA," said Blackwell.

"They will then decide whether to make an appeal."
