Blades look at Gerrard

Sheffield United are taking a look at former Everton and Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Paul Gerrard, with both Paddy Kenny and Ian Bennett carrying knocks.

Kenny missed the weekend loss to Reading with a thigh injury, while Bennett picked up a knock in the 2-1 loss to the Royals.

That has left Blades boss Neil Warnock short of cover and keen to run the rule over former Bramall Lane loanee Gerrard.

He said: "We've not been able to find a third goalkeeper that we've been looking for.

"I know Paul, he's been with us before, and it seemed silly that he's not training with anyone, so I felt it would help both him and us if he came up for a couple of days and had a chat with us.

"It's a case of nothing ventured, nothing gained. I've not seen him yet, so if anything is to happen then it will depend on his condition."
