Blades hand trial to Tommo

Sheffield United boss Bryan Robson has handed a trial to ex-Liverpool and Blackburn midfielder David Thompson.
Thompson is currently without a club after being released in the summer from his last club, Bolton Wanderers, while Robson is looking to end United's current midfield problems.
The 30-year-old Thompson, who made several appearances for England at Under-21 level, has been challenged to prove his fitness by Robson and see if he can earn a contract with the Blades.
Thompson left his hometown club Liverpool for Coventry City in 2000 for £3million, moving on two years later to Blackburn Rovers for £1.5million.
After an injury-plagued time at Ewood Park, Thompson left on a free transfer for Wigan Athletic in January 2006, before having brief stints at Portsmouth and Bolton Wanderers.
Robson has revealed his admiration for Thompson, admitting he tried to sign the industrious midfielder during his time as West Brom boss.
