Blades dismiss Tonge rumour

Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell has dismissed speculation linking midfielder Michael Tonge with a move to Championship rivals Derby County.

The 25-year-old is a key part of Blackwell's plans for the coming campaign and the Blades boss is not about to sanction any deal.

He told BBC Radio Sheffield: "Many of my players have been linked with other clubs, but more often than not it has not come to anything.

"Often agents tout their players around, but I can honestly say there is nothing in this one, Michael is staying put."

Meanwhile, star striker James Beattie is close to full fitness after undergoing surgery on a knee problem earlier this summer.

Blackwell added: "James is making great progress. In fact, he's really surprised me.

"He wants to get involved in absolutely everything and that's great to see."
