Blades boss hammers Boro

20 Mar 2007 - 08:57:05

Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock has launched an angry attack on his Middlesbrough counterpart, Gareth Southgate, for resting players in the weekend defeat by Manchester City.

Warnock was seething over Boro resting Jonathan Woodgate and Mark Viduka ahead of the FA Cup sixth round replay at Manchester United, with City taking advantage to win 2-0 at the Riverside and move above the Blades.

Warnock told Sky Sports News: "Personally I think it is a disgrace. I know Stuart Pearce is a friend of Gareth Southgate's and I know they've got Manchester United, but I'd love to see them lose the next six games.

"I think it's scandalous and I don't think a club like Middlesbrough should disrespect Sheffield United or Charlton or anyone else scrapping for their lives. I'm absolutely disgusted to say the least.

"He's only a young manager, I just hope one day he happens to learn.

"They play West Ham on Saturday, that's another pal of his, so they'll probably not bother there.

"How he imagines us not to be disappointed I don't know and I'm sure Alan Pardew feels the same."

Southgate bit back after his side's 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford on Monday evening, saying: "Some people have had plenty to say about the team I picked on Saturday.

"It was not just Neil Warnock, there were others as well. I make decisions for the benefit of this football club and I will pick whatever team I want."
