Sheffield United have warned any clubs interested in signing Phil Jagielka that they intend to keep hold of their captain despite relegation to the Championship.
Jagielka has been linked with a host of top-flight clubs - including Everton, Aston Villa, Newcastle and Wigan - following his impressive displays during the recently completed Premier League season.
But Blades plc chairman Kevin McCabe has warned potential suitors that they won't let their club captain leave Bramall Lane without a fight.
"Phil is under contract and it wasn't so long ago that he signed an extension here," he told the Sheffield Star.
"It's hardly surprising that other clubs are interested in a player of his quality and potential, but of course we'd rather keep a hold of him.
"Hopefully we can convince Phil that he can achieve what he wants by staying with us.
"That's certainly what we will be trying to do."
