Sheffield United have parted company with manager Bryan Robson, with former Blades number two Kevin Blackwell taking charge for the rest of the season.
Robson left after being offered a role as the club's head of football, following lengthy talks with chairman Kevin McCabe.
Former England captain Robson had been under heavy pressure after the Blades failed to mount a promotion challenge following his arrival last summer, with United currently 16th in the Championship.
Former Leeds United boss Blackwell steps in, assisted by Sam Ellis, having recently left cash-strapped League One strugglers Luton Town.
A statement from McCabe on the club's official website read: "I was keen to see Bryan Robson take up this head of football role but, regrettably, this was not to be and so he departs, along with Brian Kidd.
"I had hoped Bryan would take up a new role at the club, but in the end that was not to be. Kevin and Sam are in until the end of the season when we will take stock.
"They both know the situation and, most of important of all, know how we are determined to take this club forward.
"That will include the pursuit of a football supremo to oversee a new football structure at the club."
