Blackwell reveals Blades pride

Kevin Blackwell hailed the character of his Sheffield United side after their dramatic 2-1 victory over Southampton on Tuesday night.

The Blades looked to have thrown away three points when Darius Henderson was sent off for an off-the-ball incident when they were leading 1-0.

Saints grabbed a last-minute equaliser only for substitute Jamie Ward to step off the bench and net a dramatic stoppage-time winner with his first goal since joining the Blades from Chesterfield.

"My lads showed tremendous spirit and determination to play for so long with ten men and I was gutted when Southampton equalised," said Blackwell.

"To go straight up the other end and get the winner speaks volumes for the character of the team and I thought we deserved it."
