Blackwell proud of Blades

Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell was full of praise for his players after they just missed out on automatic promotion to the Premier League.

The Blades were held to a goalless draw at Crystal Palace on Sunday and now face Preston North End in the play-offs.

Blackwell said: "I am proud of our efforts, we gave it a right good go.

"In games like this you need a break and we didn't get one against a Palace side who played with such spirit and conviction that maybe their supporters are entitled to ask why their team hadn't shown it in other games.

"But I am not too despondent at the way we played. There was massive pressure out there and the players didn't buckle, so I can't complain.

"We went a bit gung ho towards the end because we knew Birmingham were ahead and we had nothing to lose.

"The lads have been fantastic all season and we are going to have to show that kind of commitment in the play-offs."
