Blackwell makes stout defence

Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell has hit back at the snipers who have criticised many of his team's displays this season. The Blades remain in play-off contention despite a recent eight-match winless run but Blackwell has been buoyed by a sequence of three victories in a row. He also believes injuries have played a big part in his side's inconsistent displays, saying: "We've been successful for 20 out of the last 21 months. "If people want to moan about one bad month that's down to them, you can't stop that. But I have a set of players who have worked their socks off to be two points off the play-offs. "Knowing what's gone on here, I'd take that. I don't like the team getting stick when they don't deserve it and they're giving you everything. "Consistent results come when you're able to make a consistent team selection."
