Blackwell laments Taylor blow
27 Jan 2010 - 13:50:07
Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell will step up his attempt to land a new defender before the transfer window closes next Monday after Andy Taylor picked up an injury during the 3-0 win against Reading.
Blackwell sold Matthew Kilgallon to Sunderland for £2million last week and has now learned that former Tranmere Rovers full-back Taylor faces a spell on the sidelines with a groin injury.
"Andy had been in difficulty before the game," admitted the Blades manager. "But he went out there and gave us a shift which speaks volumes for his character.
"Losing people has been our Achilles heel this season. We had too many out around October and suffered for it.
"I'm aware that we might be slightly short but we've got a group of 15 or 16 players who, when they're all fit, are comparable to anyone in the division."
Reading defender Matt Mills, Portsmouth's Aaron Mokoena and Toni Kallio from Fulham are all possible targets for United.
