Blackwell eyes loan market

Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell is pondering whether to bring a new defender to Bramall Lane on loan following Ugo Ehiogu's dismissal in Saturday's 2-1 derby victory against Barnsley.

The veteran former Aston Villa player will be suspended for the Blades' next three matches after clashing with the Tykes' Anderson Silva, who also received a red card.

Blackwell told the Sheffield Star: "We'll have a look to see if we need to go into the loan market.

"Ugo held his hands up and said he was sorry to the lads and the staff. He's a professional and that's why I'm delighted to have him.

"But Ugo also knows it could be a costly mistake because he was playing so well that doing something like that or an injury was the only way he was going to lose his place."
