Blackwell closing in on new striker

Published: 24 Sep 2009 - 17:01:00

Blackwell offered extended trials to Henri Camara and Fabrice Pancrate this week and took a close look at the pair in the reserves in midweek. He has wanted to increase the number of strikers in his squad since the summer but has stepped up his search following injury to Jamie Ward, who is out for six weeks with a torn hamstring. Blackwell said: "I'm still looking for a striker because we were short before Wardy was injured so it is even more important with only Darius Henderson or Ched Evans available. "We are in negotiations with one or two clubs but it is touch and go as to whether anyone will be brought in before Saturday. "We will be OK at Swansea, though. We can use Ched or Darius on their own or play both together and it is how we cope with a lack of strikers that will be the key."
