Sheffield United striker James Beattie has pledged his future to the club, despite them failing to mount a promotion challenge this season.

The 30-year-old former England international has scored 14 goals for the Blades since his £4million move from Everton last summer and Beattie insists that he will honour his contract with the Championship club.

He told the Sheffield Star: "I love being here, I love the club and the lads are fantastic.

"I like playing here and until either Kevin Blackwell or the chairman, Kevin McCabe, tell me anything different then, yes, I'll be here.

"People speculate about my future every year, but I always tell them exactly the same thing, that I'm contracted to a team.

"The fans have also been good to me. Whenever I'm walking around Sheffield people come up to me and say 'just keep carrying on' and that's what I'm going to do."
