Howard Wilkinson has given Sheffield Wednesday fans a boost by announcing he will continue his role as chairman. The 66-year-old, who has both played for and managed the Owls, was appointed `interim chairman' in May and has played a vital role over the summer in helping manager Alan Irvine make the changes that may help the Hillsborough club challenge for promotion this season. Wilkinson will act as chairman of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club and also Sheffield Wednesday PLC. He told the Owls` official website: "I am personally delighted to carry on as chairman of Sheffield Wednesday. Everybody knows that I have strong feelings for this club and it is an honour to have played an active role this summer, working with Alan Irvine and Nick Parker. "We have faced a number of challenges, both on and off the field, but we are fortunate in having a terrific manager who I'm confident can do the job. "Right now, I look forward to the start of the season and hopefully celebrating with fellow Wednesdayites a successful start to the campaign."
