Who's next for the Hillsborough hot seat?

Plenty of names linked with vacant Owls position Having parted company with Alan Irvine the focus has now moved to who is in line to take over as manager of Sheffield Wednesday and there is no shortage of names being linked with the job. Ex-Owl Gary Megson has moved to odds on favourite at the time of writing with online bookmakers, www.skybet.com – he has had previous promotion success but fans have their reservations about the style of play that his teams have tended to adopt. Other familiar names being linked with the job are former Owls players John Sheridan, Nigel Worthington, Mark Robins and even Paolo Di Canio. One problem with bringing back former crowd favourites is the potential effect it could have on their reputation at SWFC. John Sheridan is doing a great job at chesterfield at the moment and is fondly remembered as one of the best Wednesday players of the modern era. However, the likes of Chris turner and Danny Wilson have had memories of their successful playing days at Hillsborough tarnished by poor spells at the helm. Whenever their names are mentioned in conversations about the Owls the talk is more likely to be about their disappointing times as managers of the club rather than their more positive playing performances. Other names being linked with the job include former Bristol city and Peterborough manager Gary Johnson, Doncaster Rovers boss Sean O’Driscoll, Rochdale manager Keith Hill, Iain Dowie and Kevin Keegan. Wednesday are currently 12th in league one but with a strong squad available by League One standards to whoever takes over and with the serious financially worries seemingly behind them there is an opportunity for someone to have a chance of making a real success of this opportunity at S6.
