Premier League opposition await in the next round of the cup

Sheffield Wednesday will be rewarded with a 5th round tie at Premier League side Everton if they can overcome Blackpool in a replay at Hillsborough.

An inviting tie at Goodison Park awaits the winners of the Hillsborough clash but Wednesday will feel they should be on their way already after missing out on the win atBlackpoolby a matter of seconds.

Clinton Morrison gave the Owls the lead early on in the 2nd half at Bloomfield Road and the former Eire internationals goal looked like being enough to see off Championship opposition for the second round in succession. That was until the home side were awarded a penalty in the 3rd minute of injury time and veteran forward Kevin Phillips made no mistake from the spot.

A replay is hardly what either side had in mind with their priority being promotion from their respective divisions but the incentive of a trip to one of the most established top flight clubs in the country should make for another well contested tie at Hillsborough.

Wednesday will play Blackpoolat home on Tuesday 7th February with the winners going on to face Everton during the weekend of 18th February.

The Owls are Yorkshire’s only remaining representative in this seasons F.A. Cup after steel city neighbours Sheffield United were dumped out of the competition 4-0 at home by Birmingham City.
